Annual suicide rates rose in all but one state between 1999 and 2016, on the average of 25 percent, with increases seen across age, gender, race and ethnicity. Among 15 to 34-year-olds, suicide is the second-leading cause of death. And contrary to popular belief, more than half of people who died by suicide had no known mental health issues.
